Winter Sport Update - September

Winter sport competitions are starting to wrap up around the state. UniSA has a number of teams in various competitions, and this is how they are faring.

There are a number of UniSA basketball teams competing in Basketball SA’s District competitions. The senior women’s division 5 team have had an incredible season. They finished 10 games clear on top of the ladder after being undefeated all season, and they will hoping to continue that into the finals. In the senior men’s division 3, UniSA finished in 11th place and in division 4 they were 8th. UniSA team 2 placed 4th in division 5 and are playing off in a semi-final this week, while UniSA 1 finished 6th. In division 6, the two teams finished 8th and 10th.

In the Collegiate Soccer League, UniSA’s men’s teams still have a few weeks left of the minor rounds. The division 3 team will be hoping to finish strongly and improve on their 5th position to guarantee themselves a position in the finals. Unfortunately the finals are out of reach for the division 4 team, who are in 9th. In the FFSA Women’s League, UniSA’s division 4 team is sitting nicely in 3rd, and they are hoping to maintain that for finals.

The UniSA Volleyball Club have their inaugural team in Volleyball SA’s State League and have continued their improvement throughout the year. Finishing the year in 2nd place, they will be playing off for a spot in the grand final in their semi-final this week.

The Hockey Club had six senior teams competing in the Hockey SA Metropolitan competition, and it was a difficult season for UniSA. Finishing 9th was a common theme amongst the teams, with men’s metro 1, women’s metro 1, men’s metro 3 and men’s metro 5 teams all finishing 9th. Otherwise, the women’s metro 3 team finished 6th and the women’s metro 5 team placed 5th.
