Mental Health First Aid Course

UniSA’s Wellbeing mission is to support our student community to achieve positive mental health and resilience by offering FREE Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to student leaders. We want our students to be aware of how to take care of their own mental health and to be in the best possible position to support a fellow student who may be struggling or experiencing a mental health crisis.

This 12 hour accredited training offered over two days is sponsored by Bupa, UniSA’s Overseas Student Health Care provider.

We are prioritising places for Mental Health 1st Aid training to student leaders in the following categories:
 Members of UniSA’s batyr student executive
 Higher degree research students
 Elected student leaders within USASA (including regional campuses)
 Study Pals, Uni mentors, PASS leaders and Academic Student Representatives across different programs
 Student leaders in UniSA Experience +Plus leadership program and Community Connect
 UniSA Sport leaders

What you will learn:
 Skills to recognise the signs and symptoms of a mental health problem(s) in yourself or others
 Knowledge of possible risk factors
 Awareness of the evidence based medical, psychological and alternative treatments available
 Skills in how to give appropriate help and support to someone experiencing mental health problem(s)
