The 2020 Vice Chancellors Cup got underway on Friday, August 28 at Pridham Hall, with 10 teams from seven different units across the University contesting the badminton competition.

It was a close competition which was played in great spirits as the 44 participants enjoyed their Friday afternoon out of the office.

The STEM students team took out the title as badminton winners, defeating UniSA International ‘Power’ in the final, while Business won the third place play off against Student Engagement Unit.

Captain of the winning STEM team Miguel Santos said the team was extra pleased to win the event, as majority of the team hadn’t participated in the VC Cup before.

“My whole team was very ecstatic as this year was their first time participating, and it was surreal for me as badminton isn’t my main sport,” Miguel said.

“What better way to start than taking out the trophy?”

Miguel has participated in the VC Cup since his first year at university and has always enjoyed being involved in the event.

“The Vice Chancellor’s Cup is the perfect way to showcase the competitive fire within each UniSA Academic Unit,” Miguel said.

“It surely is and will always be one of the best highlights in my entire University career.

“It has always been an honour to represent my unit and while this might be my last chance to participate, I know that the upcoming students would continue the legacy for STEM!”

The second event of the 2020 VC Cup will be volleyball at Magill on Friday 23 October. Click here for more details and to register.
