Team UniSA was on full display on September 15th as staff and students alike rolled, ran and walked their way from Adelaide’s CBD to Glenelg for the 50th annual City-Bay Fun Run.
178 of the thousands of participants involved in the event were UniSA staff, students and Invictus Pathway participants.
UniSA alumni and Honours graduate in Physiotherapy, Isaac Heyne, won the 12km men’s race with a time of 33 minutes and 38 seconds.
Team UniSA produced some excellent times, with the fastest members of the team in the 12km race being UniSA staff member and gym instructor at UniSA Sport, Rebecca Dostan, with a time of 58 minutes and 14 seconds in the female event; and Jack Scanlan, PhD Medical Science student, with a time of 42 minutes and 52 seconds.
A total of 8 Team UniSA competitors ran under the 50 minute mark and another 17 Team UniSA runners ran the event in under 60 minutes.
Second-year Architecture Studies student and Adelaide Thunder player in the National Wheelchair Basketball League, Isobella Nitschke, won the 12km Wheelchair event overall, with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 52 seconds.
The 12km race is the traditional race that has been a part of the Fun Run since its formation; however, the event has since expanded to include a 3km, 6km and a half marathon.
17 UniSA staff and students competed in the half marathon, which spans a total of 21km, with Tiana Cetta—a first year student studying a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours)—coming 2nd overall in the female event, recording a time of 1 hour 16 minutes and 16 seconds.
Tiana Cetta also competes nationally in cross country and middle/long distance events. Along with Isobella Nitschke, is on the UniSA elite athlete register and a part of the UniSA Sport Athlete Development Program (ADP).
Carter Lisk, UniSA Sport Strength and Conditioning coach for the ADP, and Sarah Fullston, UniSA sport staff member, both recorded times under 30 minutes for the best UniSA competitors in the 6km event.
Program Director for Master of Advanced Clinical Physiotherapy, Dan Harvie, organised several postgraduate physios to provide some well needed lower leg massages in the Team UniSA marquee for participants of the event.
And a big thank you to the volunteers from the ADP who helped cook the BBQ, and ensured that all UniSA participants had adequate hydration and food requirements.
