Sean wins Bronze at the World U24 Ultimate Championships

Posted By Alana Colbert on 15/02/2018

A huge congratulations to Sean Davis and our Australian Goannas U24 Open Team who have brought back Bronze from the World Under-24 Ultimate Championships in Perth! This was Sean’s second World’s tournament after playing in the World Junior Ultimate Championships in 2014.
Australia got off to a strong start taking down powerhouse Canada 15-4 in their first game, with Sean playing predominately as a distribution handler to keep the disc swinging to create opportunities up field. Despite a tough loss to Germany in their second game the team was still able to top their initial pool play. Pool play 2 saw the team come up against Japan. The game was tight from start to finish, unfortunately on universe point Australia was unable to capitalise on their opportunities and the Japanese took the game 13-12. The team squared up against Great Britain in the quarters where they won convincingly to enter the Semi’s against the undefeated USA. The USA were again too strong, taking away the game 15-9. This placed Australia up against Germany in the Bronze medal game, who they lost against in the pool play. Australia provided a much stronger performance and pulled away to win 12-8, and ultimately claim the Bronze Medal!!! Making them one of the most successful Australian Under 24s Men’s team to date.
Sean’s favourite part of worlds was "Getting to play with a bunch of incredible athletes that make your jaw drop every couple of minutes" and growing his advice for aspiring players. Sean being one of the youngest members of the team, will get another opportunity at U24’s in 2019. Insane work Sean, doing USAU proud! #LiveByUSAU
