The UniSA Boardriders Club held our first Learn to Surf Day of 2017 on Saturday 4th March. There was a great turn out, with 18 members attending, many of them being international students. The day started early and quite warm in the city, but shortly after departing the city we ran into some thick fog further south and the temperature dropped off. The swell was a great size for beginners, mainly between 1-2 ft, with some bigger 3ft waves out the back. Everyone was very excited at the prospect of surfing for the first time or further developing their surfing skills. During the 2 hour lessons nearly everyone managed to stand up, some showing exceptional surfing prowess. The group returned from the swell exhausted, but eager for their next surfing encounter. A much needed lunch was held at a local bakery before the return journey to Adelaide. It was great to see everyone getting on so well as we said farewells at the City West Campus, with many international students forming new friendships.
