More than 6000 university students from all over Australia competed across 31 sports in the UniSport Nationals multisport event in Queensland from 23 to 29 September. 

Delivered by UniSport Australia, this flagship event brought together university students to battle it out for the Nationals gold, competing across 31 sports offered throughout the week.  

Fifty-three UniSA team members across eight teams competed in the Judo, Cycling, Lacrosse, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Volleyball, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Tennis, And Mixed Netball events.

UniSA won several medals, including: 

  • Lillee Wakefield won a gold medal in the Women’s over 78kg category
  • Men’s Tennis team, silver medal in Div 2
  • Mixed Netball team, bronze medal in Div 2

               

UniSA Judo team.

Other UniSA results over the week include:

  • Cooper Sayers (Cycling) – 4th in Men’s Road Race and 8th in the Criterium 
  • Lacrosse – 5th overall
  • Women’s Volleyball – 4th in Div 2 bronze medal match
  • Women’s Tennis – 7th place in Div 2 
  • Men’s Volleyball – 8th place in Div 2

UniSA team captains, Shannon Schutt (Mixed Netball) and Jessica Musson (Mixed Netball) led our students in representing the University with great pride and strong athleticism against tough competition.

We would also like to extend a very spirited congratulations to the UniSA Sport Spirit Award winners, Ira Pagadut (Mixed Netball) and Mehdi Alizadeh (Volleyball)! This award was presented in recognition of their consistent efforts in keeping a positive team culture throughout the multisport event. 

UniSport Nationals 2023 standalone events 

From March to September, UniSA students competed in Nationals Athletics (Gold Coast), Nationals Swimming (Sydney), Nationals Snow (Thredbo), Nationals Distance Running (Gold Coast). Congratulations to the following medal winners from the final results:  

  • Nationals Athletics - Jasmine Guthrie won a silver medal in the Women’s 400m Athletics event. 
  • Nationals Snow - Finn Bowes won a silver medal in Panelled Slalom and silver medal in Slalom, and Alfie Wenk won a bronze medal in Panelled Slalom and bronze medal in Slalom.
  • Nationals Distance Running - Joe Cross won a silver medal in the Half Marathon event. 

The final UniSport Nationals event for the year is T20 Cricket, which will be held in Adelaide from 20 to 24 November. Good luck to our UniSA team!
